KEY AREA 1
LEARNING AND TEACHING
EVIDENCE “The teaching staff creates a stimulating learning climate using well-paced teaching approaches.  Classroom observations confirm this.” –  External Review Team Report (2012)
PRIORITY Addressing the Literacy and Oracy competences of our pupils starting from the Early Years building up to the Junior Years of our school.
DEVELOPMENT TARGETS
  • To enhance oral competences in both English and Maltese languages
  • To enhance literacy competences in both English and Maltese languages
  • To instil confidence in the creative and communicative use of English within the classroom
  • To increase time spent on creative oracy tasks and moving away from closed exercises
  • To re-evaluate the use of English in the classroom, in terms of daily routines and activities
  • Reading with fluency and with meaning should be a priority in both English and Maltese
  • To offer more opportunities to pupils for the development of creative writing
  • To re-evaluate the tasks set for writing for correctness
KEY AREA 2
ACHIEVEMENT AND ASSESSMENT
EVIDENCE “Formative and summative assessment methods are used to evaluate learners’ progress and support learning”  – External Review Team Report 2012
PRIORITY The introduction of a school policy which outlines in writing the agreed school-wide consensus on the practice to be followed when assessing the students’ progress and achievements.
DEVELOPMENT TARGETS
  • To develop a school policy on how learners’ progress and on how achievement can be recorded
  • To enhance a ‘formative assessment’ practice in teaching
  • To sustain the good practice of sharing Learning outcomes and success criteria in lessons with students
  • Gradual introduction of an established practice for the recording of achievement at kinder level up to Year 6 which could help parents follow better the learners’ progress.
KEY AREA 3
RESOURCES FOR LEARNING
EVIDENCE “There is a concerted effort to enrich the school’s resources
 for learning and teaching.” – External Review Team Report 2012
PRIORITY The organisation, compilation and dissemination of a learning resources inventory among the teachers, KGAs and LSAs to promote further use.
DEVELOPMENT TARGETS
  • To implement a fair resource distribution system
  • To make sure that resources required by class teacher are used effectively
  • To abide by the written policy regarding the provisions of resources and supplement it effectively
