The Elections for School Councils are to be held on Friday 18th January 2013. The results of these elections will determine the composition of the School Council for the period between January 2013 and December 2014. This year, in order to increase parental nvolvement in the School Council elections, Heads of School might wish to consider giving parents the option of sending their completed ballot paper either by post or in a sealed envelope passed on through their child, besides voting on the school premises on Election Day. It is important that only those votes received by Friday 18th January 2013 are considered.
Late votes are to be considered as invalid votes.
Heads of School are kindly directed to Legal Notice 135 of 1993 and are reminded that School Councils are an essential aspect of the school democratic process and they should therefore do their utmost to:
· Enhance awareness of the significance and importance of the School Council.
· Encourage as many teachers and parents/guardians as possible to stand for elections.
· Ensure maximum exposure of candidates.
· Enhance voting by adopting effective facilitating measures (e.g. holding an activity at school while voting is taking place so that parents/guardians make only one journey to the school).
The Projects & Initiatives Section and the College Principals, should be informed of these facilitating measures.
