Ħal Għaxaq Primary CAP-tivated for L-Istrina!

l-istrinaDuring the past months, our pupils and their families were busy collecting plastic caps as part of the Greenpak’s ‘’Nirriċiklaw ghall-Istrina 2012’’ event in order to collect funds for Istrina 2012 through recycling practices; an initiative which will benefit both the Malta Community Chest Fund and in turn our environment.

Representatives from Greenpak visited our school on Friday 21st December 2012 together with their mascot GREEN GARY to announce the winners of this year’s competition.

Our school ranked second in last year’s edition of the ‘’Nirriċiklaw ghall-Istrina 2011’’, so our pupils did their utmost to break their own record for this year’s edition. Our pupils collected over a Tonne of plastic caps for this year’s event. The final outcome was revealed on Friday 21st December at 10:30 at our school by Greenpak’s officials.

Our school was declared as the overall winner of this year’s ‘’Nirriċiklaw ghall-Istrina 2012’’ competition. Having collected over 1,400 kg of plastic caps, our pupils contributed heavily towards this year’s initiative.    Greenpak’s officials announced that over 8 tonnes of plastic caps were collected from all participating schools.  Greenpak’s CEO announced that €7,000 will be presented to the annual charity telethon, L-Istrina 2012.

l-istrina2A trophy was awarded to the school.   All pupils, staff and the whole school community felt proud for this achievement – which will eventually be translated into money contributed towards the Istrina 2012 charity-initiative.   The village mayor and the school council’s president were also present for this occasion. The new college Principal joined us later to celebrate this positive news with the school leadership team.

Pupils from the students councils of the top-ranked schools were invited to present the money at L-Istrina held on 26th December 2012.

The school leadership team made up of our assistant heads Ms E Vassallo and Mr S Sammut together with our school head Mr D Grech would like to thank all the pupils and their families, as well as other individuals who contributed towards this success.
